aol and doctor's

im at my moms in ridgefield...she's got old school internet...a modem! and she's still using aol. who uses aol nowadays anyway? i had a doctor's appt this morning....god i fucking hate going to the doctor more than anything. it seems like they try to make you uncomfortable. and when the receptionist asks you for your insurance card, (and you don't have insurance) they get really quiet and avoid eye contact like you are some kind of scumbag. and the doctor's assistant. she told me she doesn't like her job and wants to change careers but she's too old. that's not very comforting to hear. i don't like my doctor much...she rushes everything and doesn't really seem to care about what you're telling her...she just looks at the numbers and tells you you're fine. with the lack of insurance and the shitty health care system i think that's why i only go to the doctor every 4 years.

I never go to the doctors. Healthcare sucks in this country. I dont trust anyone.
Cavutto on

Doesn't it make you wonder when you go to the doctor's office and they tell you you everything's fine and your like, "Nuh-uh!  I've been smoking for like 35 years and I drink a whole bunch of whiskey for breakfast!"

That's what they told me at least.

I have really good healthcare and yet I still never go to the doctor....I think my hatred of medical enviroments has prevented me from getting sick...I haven't seen the doctor since 2000.

Dude, you need health insurance.

Joe, healthcare in this country sucks? You're weird.
natanism on

Healthcare in this country does suck, most people in thier 20's and seniors don't have healthcare because they can't afford it, and that SUCKS!

Oh yeah and Ness my boss uses aol for everything.

Ringer on
I'll admit that seniors have it tough. HOWEVER!!! I bet you that every last one of them will tell you how they wish they had saved more money when they had the chance. Seriously, in the end, it's all about how much you save.

As for this next point, I don't say this to be mean. People in their 20's have no real excuse. They're not "completely f**ked", they're 20 years old! Only been eligible to work for what, 4-5 years? If 20-year-olds (me being in my twenties) aren't seeking out jobs with appropriate health benefits, then they need to just accept that they'll have to pay out-of-pocket. It's that simple.

If he/she chooses a job which both doesn't offer health benefits AND doesn't offer enough money to pay the premium for health insurance, then they need to re-consider that McDonald's application. And I'm serious, McDs does offer health benefits, and I do consider health insurance a top priority. The more you pay, the less I have to.

I mean, it's either that or just "winging it", and hoping you never get a series of bacterial infections.

And yes, AOL does suck.

I am a 1099 employee, my company does not offer health benefits, I have money saved but I also pay a premium rent ($750) a premium car insurance ($140/month) and throw in the taxes that I pay about $1700-$2400 annually it really doesn't leave a lot of money left over.  Sure I could pay $200 a month for insurance, I would just have to cut out my other luxuries (i.e a car!) that I use to get back and forth to work.
Ringer on
Dude, I'm probably just taking health benefits for granted. I take a lot for granted.

I understand that certain goals -- while they might not bring immediate gratification -- are still worth pursuing.

TheJoeD on

I paid for health care out of pocket for two years at $161 a month with decent coverage. When i got in an accident I had to go in for one lousy catscan and it cost me nearly $3500. I disputed it with the insurance company for what seemed like ever and finally got them to pay. Even if you do have coverage, they'll still try to pork you any way you can. At least Anthem Blue Cross will.

In any case, I'm not taking sides, but thats something to think about. You don't want to save a few bucks a month only to have a huge bill in front of you one day. We all know things can happen.

Try spending less $$$ on Beanie Babies, Natanis.

honestly, when i had healthcare, i never really took advantage of it.  i'm pretty healthy so i dont really need to go to the doctor often.  unless something serious happens, then i'm screwed.
TheJoeD on
I paid a huge chunk of my paycheck in 06 to really kick ass coverage. I decided to minimize that amount this year and take a gamble. Hopefully luck stays on my side.

I HOPE YOU ALL GET LEPRESY!!!!

Just kidding.

Smokers are jokers.

I think I pay like $25 a month for mine.  I got the really good one like Joe was talking about having because I have a tendency to wind up at the hospital on a regular basis.

You can easily cure leprosy with tetracycline.  Worked for the ancient Egyptians.

Thank god for walk in clinics, that is all I have to say.  If I had been paying for insurance for let's just say the last 3 yrs at Joes' rate I would have wasted $5796.  I do agree that I am fucked if I get real fucked up though.

i think ringer is really an insurance salesman

When I got into a car accident 2 years ago all by medical bills came out to 15,000+.  At the time I was on my mother's medical insurance which paid it all in full.  If I had to pay that out of pocket it would have really sucked.
Cavutto on

I had a hospital stay that was worth $250,000+.  I think I wound up paying like $50 for the ambulance ride or something ridiculously small like that.

Gaylord Focker.  That name still cracks me up.

Timbo: We could have just not gone to the Pour House all summer and you woulda been fine.
